This Morning star Trevor Sorbie dies aged 75 after announcing he had ‘weeks left to live’

Celebrity hairdresser Trevor Sorbie has passed away, aged 75, after being diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer, which spread to his liver.

He previously spoke about the news on This Morning last month, stating that he might not make it to Christmas.

Sorbie was a regular guest on the ITV show, and admitted that he ‘ignored’ symptoms of the cancer, before revealing that he had ‘weeks left to live’ after the diagnosis.

The statement posted to his social media accounts read: “It is with heartfelt emotion that we share the passing of our esteemed founder, Trevor Sorbie MBE. Trevor passed away peacefully with his family and beloved dog by his side.

“Trevor’s journey, marked by unparalleled creativity and kindness, has left an indelible mark on the world of hairdressing and beyond.

“From pioneering The Wedge five decades ago to establishing our first salon in 1979, Trevor’s vision set new standards and continues to inspire generations.

“As we commemorate 45 years of Trevor Sorbie salons, we remain steadfast in upholding the passion, artistry, and dedication that he embodied.

“Trevor often reminded us to ‘be bold, be different, but always do everything in good taste.’ His ethos of kindness, care, and excellence continues to guide us.

“He expressed immense pride in our team and confidence in our commitment to carrying forward his legacy.

It continued: “Honouring Trevor’s wishes, there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, we invite you to support four charities: Marie Curie, Cancer Research UK, Rowans Hospice and My New Hair, all close to his heart.

“We also plan to celebrate his remarkable life and contributions with a special event next year and will share details in due course.

“Thank you for being an integral part of our community and for your continued support as we honour Trevor’s legacy.”

Sorbie had his hands on the hair of several A-list celebrities, such as Dame Helen Mirren, Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams, and Beatles’ stars George Harrison and Paul McCartney to name a few.

Speaking to hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, he said that he was told his diagnosis in June, as he was joined by wife Carole on the show.

There were several symptoms that he said he missed, as he explained at the time: “I lost a lot of blood one night and was unusually disturbed about that. I went to the hospital, and they told me I had bowel cancer.”

After the diagnosis, he revealed: “I had a little panic attack and Carole and I looked at each other and we were just both speechless walking down the road… I didn’t know what to say.”

Following a six-hour operation, the cancer spread to his liver, leading to another operation, however, he said the growth was ‘too close to a major blood vessel’ to be taken out.

A regular guest on ITV’s This Morning has revealed he ‘ignored’ key bowel cancer symptoms as he says he has just ‘weeks left to live’ as a result of the disease.

Trevor Sorbie has cut the hair of celebrities for decades, with famous clients including Dame Helen Mirren, George Harrison, and the Beach Boys. He also created the wedge cut, which you will know by image if not by name.

But now, aged 75, Sorbie has revealed he does not have long left to live and might not make it to Christmas due to how quickly his cancer is taking over his body.

Appearing on This Morning last month, Sorbie said that in June he was told by medical professionals that he had ‘maybe six months’ left to live.

Then, during a scan in September, Sorbie’s wife Carole revealed that they realised ‘no treatment is going to work’.

Now, in an interview with The Times published last weekend, Sorbie and his partner – who he describes as ‘Florence Nightingale and Mother Teresa rolled into one’ – revealed he had ignored key symptoms of the cancer for months.

The couple said that in 2019 Carole had been forced to ring for an ambulance after he began bleeding heavily.

Sorbie said he had no symptoms of the cancer but was quickly corrected by Carole, who said he had diarrhoea and constipation for months.

“I’m a man. Men are scared,” he candidly replied.

Surgery saw a mass in Sorbie’s bowel removed, with just a five percent chance of the tumour coming back. Tragically, Sorbie was in that five percent.

And while being told he might not be here at Christmas, Sorbie is remaining positive and hopes to make it to the big day.

“I never wake up thinking, ‘Oh, poor me. I’ve got cancer I feel sorry for myself’,” he said on This Morning.

“I go to work, well up until two weeks ago, two days a week, and I go there because that’s my medicine. That is my life – 60 years. I’ve worked passionately to achieve beyond my wildest dreams, actually, and when I go in it’s my staff, I’ve had them for up to 30 years, they’re family. I’m just one of the team.”

Sorbie’s chemotherapy treatment has come to an end but he regularly takes steroid injections to stop the pain and inflammation in his body from getting too much. But it is treatment that has given him ‘mad insomnia’, he says.

Under the NHS, bowel cancer screening tests can be done at home and checks for signs of bowel cancer. It’s offered to everyone aged 54 to 74.
